Scope & Content Handwritten letter and envelope from Edward Scofield who is a Presbyterian minister in the town of Mishawaka, Indiana. He is writing to William "Willie" Judkins, who is serving with the 48th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer. William mustered in in Oct 1861. He mentions having to announce the death of Capt.Houghton, Co. I, 9th Regiment Indiana Volunteer to the congregation. Mr. G. Milburn was appointed to visit all the hospitals where they have sick or wounded soldiers and to go to Pittsburg to mark the places of the dead. He finishes by telling news from home.
